JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Lumen Christi scored 24 unanswered second-half points to turn a 21-14 halftime deficit into a 38-21 win over Coldwater on Homecoming night for the Titans. Lumen’s offensive attack featured a steady diet of running back Walker Plate, who had 28 carries for 231 yards and 4 touchdowns, while their defense held the Cardinals to a total of 104 yards rushing. Matt Gipple led the Coldwater ground game with 17 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown. Damon Beckhusen had 6 carries for 26 yards, while Jaxon Janusz, one of our McDonald’s Players of the Game, had 3 carries for 10 yards and a touchdown. Janusz was also 3/7 passing for 66 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Cam Torres had the 42-yard TD reception. Krishten Brouse and Bo Branham led the defense with 9 tackles apiece, while our other McDonald’s Player of the Game, Zach Tong, had 6 tackles along with Austin Santure and Spencer Rodesiler. The loss drops Coldwater’s record to 2-1 overall, 1-1 in the Interstate 8.
Quincy and Union City needed overtime to settle this year’s edition of the cross-county rivalry. After playing to a 13-13 draw through regulation, Union City scored first in overtime on Brady Katz’s 10-yard TD run, but the ensuing 2-point conversion try was no good. Quincy answered with a 3-yard TD run by Chandler Locke, and the PAT kick by Hunter Watson lifted the Orioles to a 20-19 win over the visiting Chargers. Quincy, who improves to 2-1 overall, 2-0 in the Big 8, was led by Evan Coon, who had 14 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown. Chandler Locke had 9 carries for 35 yards and a score, and Dalton Messenger threw a 52-yard TD pass to Blake Burkhart. Coon led the Oriole defense with 11 tackles. For Union City, now 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the Big 8, Terrance Morgan had 11 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown, and he threw an 87-yard TD pass to Kyle Johnson. Johnson finished with 3 receptions for 142 yards. Garrett Iobe had 88 rushing yards on 24 carries, and Brady Katz had 7 carries for 35 yards and a score. Reece Prough had 7 tackles to lead the Charger defense.
Like Union City, Bronson is looking for its first win of the season after undefeated Springport defeated the Vikings 48-34 at Charles Hilton Field. And in 8-man football, Tekonsha picked up its first win of the season with a 28-0 shutout of visiting Litchfield.
