COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – On a day that featured a large community tailgate party to promote cultural understanding, the Coldwater High School boys soccer teams took a pair of games from rival Sturgis Saturday.
The varsity beat Sturgis 3-1, behind goals from Edwin Gallegos, Angel Rodriguez, and Dillon Lawhead. Mubarak Said had two assists, with one for Mohamed Aljabaly.
Michael Orozco-Aburto made three saves in goal, as Coldwater improved to 6-4 overall. The Cardinals are again ranked 15th this week in the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Division Two Poll.
The Coldwater JV team beat Sturgis 8-0 in a game that ended with 11 minutes left on the mercy rule. Brayden Boyd scored three goals, with two for Hisham Zamzami, and one each for Jesus Sosa, Naja Norman, and Joseph Closson. Bauston Feldbauer had three saves in goal for the shutout.
Both Coldwater teams will host Parma Western in Interstate 8 Conference action Tuesday. The JV game is at 5:00 p.m., with the varsity at 6:30 p.m. It is also Youth Soccer Night, with any child wearing a youth soccer jersey admitted free and also allowed to walk out with the varsity team during pregame introductions.
Quincy fell at home to Olivet 5-4 Saturday. Axel Beltran scored twice for the Orioles. Brodie Mainstone and Alex Pickell each had a goal. Michael Bostic got an assist on Beltran’s first goal.
Nolan Nohr had 6 saves in goal.
