Mary Ethel Liebe, 92, of Coldwater passed away Thursday,
September 19, 2019 at First and Main Assisted Living in Commerce Twp. MI
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon,
Thursday, September 26, 2019 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater with
Fr. Dan Hyman officiating. Visitation
will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in
Coldwater.
Born in Custer, WI, February 3, 1927 to John and Lillian (Gunderson) Hickey, she
was the third of eight children. She
graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point, WI. She attended the University of Wisconsin
Stevens Point for two and a half years, it was then called Stevens Point
Teachers College. She taught in Portage Co.,
WI, one-room rural schools for two years.
She married Alois Liebe on June 18, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in Custer,
WI. In 1948 they moved to Deer Creek,
IL, in 1952 to Braidwood, IL, in 1956 to Joliet, IL. They attended (in Joliet) St. Jude’s Catholic
Church where she was very active. She
was St. Jude’s Sodality President for two years. She was President of the St. Jude’s Little
League Auxiliary, she was a cub scout den mother for three years.
She retired,
after 20 years from the Will County Health Dept., where she worked as a Vision
and Hearing Technician. In 1988 they
purchased their home in Coldwater. She
loved boating, fishing for blue gills and traveling. Their trip to Ireland for their 50
th
wedding anniversary was one of her most rewarding trips.
She was a member of the Council of Catholic
Women at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Coldwater. She enjoyed keeping the family genealogy
updated and collecting U.S. stamps.
Mary is survived by her son Larry Liebe,
granddaughters Ashley (John) Phillips with their daughter Madlyn and Kristina
(Matthew) Funni and their daughter Hazel, Edith Steffanus, her brothers Harold
(Mary) and James (Joan) Hickey.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband Alois, sister Elizabeth (Harold) Fancher and Grace (Wilbur) Dean ,
brothers Glenn and Roy Hickey.
