COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school soccer, Coldwater improved to 4-2 in the Interstate 8 Conference and 8-5 overall with a 5-0 win at home Tuesday over Jackson Lumen Christi.
The matchup was the annual Purple Game to support the fight against cancer and raise money for the Cancer Center at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. Coldwater players wore special Purple jerseys for the game, which were purchased in honor or memory of someone who battled cancer.
The Cardinals got the opening score just over five minutes into the game on a goal from Amine Mohammed, assisted by Mubarak Said. The second goal in the first half came from Brady Travelbee, assisted by Mohamed Nasser.
The Cardinals got second half goals from Saleh Mohammed, assisted by Mohamed Nasser, and Ayash Ahmed, assisted by Angel Rodriguez, as well as a penalty kick from Mohamed Aljabaly.
Michael Orozco-Aburto got the shutout in goal with one save, as Coldwater outshot Lumen Christi 21-1.
The Cardinals will play at Harper Creek Thursday with the JV game at 4:00 p.m. and the varsity game at 5:30 p.m.
