COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council introduced an ordinance Monday night concerning a Solar Net Billing program which would be offered by the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities.
CBPU Director Jeff Budd said in his memo to the Council that the program is being recommended by the CBPU after they analyzed various methods for allowing customers to utilize solar generation in order to reduce their electrical consumption.
Budd said this platform is based on the program adopted by Traverse City Light and Power.
It was approved by the CBPU Board of Directors last Tuesday.
According to Budd, since the Solar Net Billing program requires an additional meter, the staff is recommending updates to the CBPU Rules, Regulations & Rates which will require an ordinance for adoption.
In other business, the Council scheduled a public hearing for October 14 on the establishment of a Commercial Rehabilitation District. If approved, the district would be along Division and South Clay streets in order to connect two groups of properties zoned highway commercial. Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden says it would create a corridor where rehabilitation of commercial property in encouraged and made feasible for local businesses.
