COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Fire Department says a dehumidifier was the likely cause of a fire that caused nearly $180,000 worth of damage to the Chuck Lovelace residence at 541 Schaeffer Drive southeast of Coldwater on Thursday morning.
The home was not occupied at the time of the fire which was reported at about 9:20 a.m..
There was heavy fire in the front and back of the house around the garage area.
Coldwater firefighters requested mutual aid and tankers from the Quincy and Lakeland Fire Departments.
Crews were able to keep the majority of the fire damage to the east side of the building but there was excessive smoke and heat damage in the entire house.
No injuries reported and a cat was rescued from the residence. Firefighters were on the scene for over three hours.
Also called to the scene were Lifecare Ambulance, the Branch County Sheriff’s Department, Branch County EMA, the Branch County Victim Services Unit and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division.
