COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Superintendents from three local school districts brought members of the Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce up to date last Thursday on the latest issues in their districts.
Quincy Superintendent Marc Kramer said one area they have updated is safety and security, thanks to a Michigan State Police School of Safety Grant.
Coldwater’s Terry Ann Whelan said there will be a question on the November ballot for the building and site sinking fund millage that would replace the current millage that expires in December 2020.
It’s a renewal of the current annual millage of .9740 mills but Whelan says it has to be called a new millage because of a change in state law two years ago which expanded the use of what a sinking fund can be used for. The law now allows the use of sinking fund dollars for instructional technology and security.
Coldwater Community Schools has had a sinking fund millage for 20 years.
Branch Intermediate School District Superintendent Kris Jenkins said their mission is “Nothing less than success for all.” She went over the goals the district has for students and the community.
Nearly 50 Chamber members attended the Chamber’s “Business for Breakfast” at Broadway Grille.
