PARMA, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school soccer, after a tight contest for the first 70 minutes, Parma Western scored the go ahead goal with 10 minutes to play, and held on to beat Coldwater 3-1 in the first round of the Interstate 8 Conference Gold Division Tournament Tuesday.
Parma Western scored the first goal of the game with 12 minutes to play in the first half. The Cardinals then tied the game with 28 minutes to play in the second half on a goal from Amine Mohammed, assisted by Mubarak Said. The Panthers retook the lead on a long range shot with just over 10 minutes to play, then added the final goal with 1:23 to play.
With the loss, the Cardinals will now host Jackson Northwest in the Gold Division third place game Thursday night.
Parma Western, ranked 12th this week in the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Division 2 Poll, improves to 13-2 and will take on 5th ranked Marshall in the Gold Division championship game.
Coldwater’s record is 5-3 in the Interstate 8 Conference and 10-6 overall.
The Coldwater JV team beat Parma Western 9-1. Brayden Boyd had four goals, with two each for Joseph Closson and Hisham Zamzami, and one for Naja Norman. Bauston Feldbauer made four saves in goal.
