COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater Planning Commission discussed but took no action Monday night on the draft of a solar facility ordinance.
The proposed ordinance is designed to permit and encourage the development of solar energy systems within the City of Coldwater while ensuring that such systems do not become a nuisance to neighbors or the community.
The size of the systems would fall into three categories. Small systems would be allowed on up to a half acre of land, medium systems would be allowed on land from a half acre to ten acres while large systems would be permitted on over 10 acres of land.
All of the systems would be no higher than 20 feet and City Planner Dean Walrack felt that is something which should be looked at. There would be requirements for both ground mounted and roof mounted systems.
In other business, the Planning Commission approved the site plan for the expansion of the ALDI grocery store at 811 East Chicago Street.
As part of a $1 million project, ALDI wants to add 3,320 square feet to the existing grocery store which will bring the total building area to over 18,000 square feet. The interior of the store will also be remodeled. The Coldwater ALDI store currently has 12 employees.
