ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A Florida man died of an apparent traumatic chest injury sustained during the crash of his box truck into a house on U.S. 20 near State Road One east of Angola, Indiana Thursday afternoon.
Steuben County Sheriff Rodney Robinson says the crash happened at about 4:30 p.m..
Deputies found a 2019 Chevrolet 4500 box truck driven by 51 year old Randy Aldridge from Jay, Florida partly into a house. Aldridge also was pinned in the vehicle.
Robinson says as Aldridge was being freed, he stated that he blacked out while driving for an unknown reason.
The vehicle was heading east on U.S. 20 when it went off the north side of the road and struck an unoccupied house. No one was living in the house.
After he was removed from the vehicle, Aldridge was taken to Cameron Hospital where he later died.
The accident is still under investigation. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Angola Police, Angola and Metz Fire Rescue, Steuben County EMS, the Indiana DNR Law Enforcement Division and the Steuben County Coroner’s Office.
