COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The U.S. 12 Heritage Trail Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, welcomed speaker Alice Kraatz to their October meeting.Kraatz is the president of the Michigan Society of Children of the American Revolution. The CAR is the oldest patriotic youth organization, founded in 1892. Their group is dedicated to service in their communities, state and country through various projects.
Alice’s project, “To Honor, To Remember”, is raising funds to send specifically Vietnam Veterans on an Honor Flight to Washington DC to see the military memorials. It has been 50 years since the Vietnam War, where 2.5 million soldiers served. Only 750,000 of these veterans remain, so time is very important. In addition, these soldiers were treated poorly when they returned and it’s time to recognize them as the heroes they are.
The U.S. 12 Heritage Trail Chapter of the DAR recently changed its name from Coldwater Chapter. This change was made to better reflect the membership of ladies from both Hillsdale and Branch Counties. DAR is a service organization open to any woman who has a direct ancestor who served in or supported the United States in the Revolutionary War. They promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. DAR recently welcomed it’s one millionth member.
