COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was arraigned on three counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct Thursday in Branch County District Court following an investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department into alleged incidents from several years ago.
21-year-old Samuel James Hanshaw was released from the Branch County Jail after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bond.
Undersheriff Keith Eichler says the Sheriff’s Department was first notified by the Michigan Department of Child Protective Services in June 2019 of alleged incidents involving a male under the age of 13 that authorities say took place between 2011 and 2014.
As a condition for posting bond, Hanshaw was told not to have any contact with the alleged victim.
Hanshaw is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing in Branch County District Court October 31. A preliminary exam was scheduled for November 6, 2019.
