COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater improved to 8-1 with a 28-14 win against Temperance Bedford at Cardinal Field.
Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Matt Gipple, had 32 carries for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns on runs of 3, 4, and 67 yards. Gipple almost had another score, but he fumbled the ball as he crossed the goal line early in the second quarter; fortunately for the Cardinals, offensive lineman Wyatt Force recovered the ball in the end zone.
Cam Torres had 3 carries for 31 yards, Kolby Wagoner had 4 carries for 26 yards, and Deandre Douglas added 6 carries for 17 yards.
Bo Branham led the defense with 7 tackles, Cole Barker had 6, and Dylan Targgart had 2 key interceptions that snuffed out scoring drives for the Mules.
The Cardinal football team will watch the Selection Sunday Show on FOX Sports Detroit PLUS Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. at Wings Etc. to find out who they will play in the first round of the MHSAA Playoffs, and where the game will be played.
The date and time of their next game is expected to be finalized by Monday.
Branch County’s representatives in the Big 8 returned home with victories in their Cascades Crossover games. Evan Coon had 27 carries for 249 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead Quincy to a 28-14 win at Napoleon. Quarterback Dalton Messenger had the other score on a 3-yard keeper; he also had 7 tackles, while Tyler Satterlee had 8 tackles, Coon added 10 and Kyler Economou led the defense with 13 tackles and an interception.
The Orioles end their season with a 4-5 record.
Union City won at East Jackson 22-14 for their second consecutive win. The Chargers close out the season at 2-7.
And for the third consecutive year, Bronson picks up a win on the final week of the season; this year, the Vikings defeated Vandercook Lake 31-20 to finish the season at 1-8.
