Two Branch County high school football players have earned Big 8 Conference first team honors for 2019.
Quincy’s Evan Coon was named to both the offensive and defensive teams.
Coon rushed for 249 yards in last Friday’s win over Napoleon which put him over 1,000 yards rushing for the season. The senior earned defensive honors at linebacker.
Sophomore linebacker Garrett Iobe of Union City was named to the first team on defense.
Earning second team honors were offensive lineman Gerl Pish and defensive back Dalton Messenger of Quincy along with linebacker Craig Tappenden and Jorge Segura of Bronson.
Honorable mentions went to Bryant Anthony and Logan Fletcher of Bronson, Kyler Economou and Keegan Hoffman of Quincy and Connor Elgan and Terrance Morgan of Union City.
Conference champion Reading had nine players make the first team including offensive lineman and league Most Valuable Player Nick Affholter. Other Rangers who made the first team were running back Hunter Midtgard, offensive lineman Josh Johnson, defensive linemen Elijah Strine and Brogan Wiler, linebacker Ben Affholter, defensive backs David Bignell and Dilon Denison and punter Porter Mauk.
