Onnalee D. Hoover, 88, of Burlington, went to be with her Lord Sunday, October 27, 2019.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City with pastors Jayme Palaszeski and Rob Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Burlington Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, November 1, 2019, also at Lighthouse.
Onnalee was born January 22, 1931 in Battle Creek, MI to Charles and Florence (Hubbard) Rice. She attended Union City Schools and graduated with the Class of 1949. On January 13, 1951 she married George Hoover in Union City. He preceded her in death in 2000. The couple resided in Union City until moving to Burlington in 1972.
They enjoyed doing farming together, working in the garden and serving as camp hosts at Little Brevort Lake Camp in the Upper Peninsula. Onnalee not only liked camping, but fishing, tending her flowers, canning, reading and sending greeting cards on special occasions.
For Burlington Township, Onnalee was librarian for 14 years and served on the election board for many years. She had been an active member of the Union City United Methodist Church since 1966, where she served in the Thrift Shop, was a funeral luncheon chairperson, Ruth Circle president, president of the United Methodist Women, and was also a Second Century Woman.
Onnalee is survived by her sons, Terry Hoover of Kalamazoo and Ron (Chris) Hoover of Sparta; her daughters, Judy (Roger) Polly of Middlebury, IN, Laurie (David) White of Hickory Corners and Christine (David) Robey of Coldwater; a brother, Dale (Carolyn) Rice of Union City; sister-in-law, Sava Rice of Jackson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George; her sister, Verla Rice; her brother, Earl Rice; and her parents, Charles and Florence Rice.
