UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Union City has begun the process of moving its water system to the village’s new water tower.
This process is expected to take several days as there has to be disinfection and testing before the tower is put into service.
Residents may experience rusty water during this time. Village officials say if you notice rusty water, just run the water until it’s clear.

The 150,000 gallon tank to replace the 75,000 gallon tank put up by Chicago Iron Works back in 1923.
Village Manager Chris Mathis says the new tower at the corner of Dirks Drive and Goodwin Drive was built to satisfy the growing water needs of the Village, which has outgrown the aging tower. The old water tower will be torn down next year.
The United State Department of Agricultural Rural Development assisted the Village with funding for the project.
