QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – An overnight power outage in the eastern part of Branch County which affected over 3,400 Consumer’s Energy customers is being blamed on equipment failure.
Consumer’s spokesman Terry Dedoes says the equipment failure took place just after 11:00 p.m. Thursday night on their main transformer near Quincy and sent the 3,469 customers served by the transformer into the dark.
The power was restored by crews at 6:22 a.m. but Quincy Community Schools officials had already called off classes for the day.
Weather was apparently not a factor in the outage. The highest recorded wind gust Thursday at the Branch County Memorial Airport was 29 miles an hour. A forecast from the National Weather Service called for gusts on Thursday night up to 40 miles an hour.
The lights came back on sooner than expected. Consumer’s Energy had indicated on its website outage page that full restoration would not take place until late morning.
The overnight power outage took in an area from I-69 east to near Booth Road and from near Girard Road south to East Central Road.
