BROOKLYN, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s Elka Machan and Quincy’s Rhett Reif won all-state medals Saturday at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Cross Country State Finals at Michigan International Speedway.
After a 17th place finish last year, Machan earned her second All-State honor as she finished fourth with a time of 18:26.3 in the Division Two girls race as Coldwater finished 18th out of 28 teams in the final standings. It was the first appearance by a Coldwater girls cross country team at the state finals in over three decades.
Legend Szafranski was 116th, Carolyn Potter was 145th, Chloe Vickers 156th, Cece Dewitt was 203rd, Aspen Yearling was 218th, and Ezma Machan was 228th.
Coldwater’s Kyle Foulk ran as an individual in the Division Two boys final and finished 81st out of 246 runners with a time of 17:08.9.
Reif was 28th in the Division Three boys final with a time of 16:47.4. Bronson’s Luis Ortiz also ran as an individual and was 53rd with a time of 17:10.2.
Bronson finished 24th in the Division Three Girls Final. Grace Welch was 137th with a time of 21:33.5. Danis Silva was 182nd, Alison Fish was 190th, Jenna Salek was 211th and Itzel Sanchez was 235th.
Quincy’s Avery Rufenacht ran as a individual and finished 150th with a time of 21:51.2.
