COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There have not been very many contested races for City of Coldwater voters to decide in recent years but there are two on the ballot in Tuesday’s election.
Mayor Tom Kramer is seeking another term against challenger Dan Corwin who missed being elected to the City Council two years when he lost to Scott Houtz in a Fourth Ward race by three votes, 143 to 140.
Kramer succeeded Gene Wallace as Mayor in 2011 when he ran unopposed. Wallace retired after serving as Coldwater Mayor for eight years. Kramer was re-elected without opposition in 2013 and 2015 and defeated Alexia Rish when she ran as a write in candidate two years ago, 1,378 to 61.
Outside of Rish’s challenge in 2017, there has not been a contested race for Mayor in Coldwater since 2007 when Wallace defeated Loren Mason.
Another contested race will be in the first ward as City Council member Cisco Ortiz will be trying to win another four year term against challenger Emily Rissman. Since the 2007 election, there have only been three contested races on the ballot for seats on the City Council.
Council members Chris Pierce, John Petzko and Houtz are running unopposed in Tuesday’s election.
