COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A public meeting has been scheduled for Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. in the Coldwater City Council chambers as the city is looking to apply for a state grant in order to be designated a Michigan Main Street Community. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation awards Main Street grants that aim to support small local businesses.
Coldwater City Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden along with a downtown building owner and a Tibbits Opera House staff member attended a recent day-long seminar on the Main Street approach to development.
City Manager Keith Baker indicated during Monday night’s City Council meeting that the Main Street program can be used for the downtown.
The presentation will recap the opportunities detailed at the recent seminar. According to Tappenden, it deals with public art and volunteerism as well as fund raising for specific projects such as unique alleyways.
