COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Conservation District has been awarded a two year Wildlife Habitat Grant of $22,100 by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources so that wildlife habitat at the Coldwater Lake State Park can be enhanced.
According to a press release from the Conservation District, the money from the grant will provide beneficial cover and food sources to wildlife species through the restoration of native grasses and wildflowers.
The Conservation District has worked on the Coldwater Lake State Park in the past through a partnership with the Branch County Chapter of Pheasants Forever and the Michigan D.N.R. Parks and Recreation Division.
The partnership has led to the conversion of 105 acres of agricultural fields into native grasses and wildflowers at the State Park.
The funds will allow the remaining 110 acres to be restored, providing a native grass and wildflower stand totaling 215 acres.
This project will also improve various recreation activities at the Coldwater Lake State Park, including hunting, trapping, and wildlife viewing.
