COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Members of the Downtown Development Authority, the Coldwater City Council, and some downtown business owners were in attendance Thursday for a presentation on the Michigan Main Street program.
There were very few empty seats in the Coldwater City Council Chambers as Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden said she felt the program was the next step for downtown Coldwater development.
She says Main Street focuses heavily on community participation and buy-in. A total of 24 communities in Michigan are part of the program which is overseen by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
Program Specialist Leigh Young said during the nearly one hour presentation that most of the communities in the program are from the southern part of the state.
Howell is one of the participants and that community was named the 2018 winner of the Great American Main Street Award.
The Michigan Main Street program helps communities who want to revitalize and preserve their traditional commercial district. More information can be found at www.miplace.org.
