COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Based on items that were discussed for nearly an hour, the City of Coldwater Planning Commission directed city staff Monday to bring back a Marihuana Establishment Ordinance.
Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker told the Planning Commission the issue has been discussed for the past year after Michigan voters gave their approval to recreational marijuana in November 2018.
Baker said there would be several steps once an ordinance is put together for the Planning Commission. There would be a public hearing before it would eventually move onto the City Council.
Baker also covered the licensing process during his powerpoint presentation, as well as the criteria for reviewing permits and site plan reviews.
It is being suggested that such establishments be located in areas zoned D-2 Heavy Industrial. They would also have to be at least 1,000 feet away from schools and 500 feet from a residential zoned district.
There would also be a one-time application fee of $5,000.
