COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – 19 Kellogg Community College students enrolled in the college’s health and skilled trades programs are the first beneficiaries of scholarships through the new Sunrise Rotary Promise program.
The scholarships, which ranged from $500 to $2,000, were presented to the students at a special reception this past week, hosted by the Kellogg Community College Foundation.
Coordinators of the scholarship program identified health science jobs like emergency medical technician, nursing assistant, radiology, and others as high need areas in the Branch County, as well as skilled trades jobs like HVAC, welding, pipefitting, and other industrial trades.
The Sunrise Rotary Promise Scholarship is a partnership between the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary and the KCC Foundation. Other Rotary clubs in the county have already contributed and joined the Project Team. The endowment is expected to be at $100,000 by the end of the year.
Other major donors have included the George and Kathie Babcoke Trust and the Hal and Lillian Creal Fund.
The goal is to development regional, business, and private donor support and increase the endowment to at least $300,000 by the end of 2021, and $500,000 within five years.
