COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council did not introduce an ordinance Monday evening that would have established a Neighborhood Improvement Authority for the Thompson Boulevard area on the northeast side of Coldwater, thus the proposal died for lack of a motion.
The proposed N.I.A. would have encompassed vacant land, Thompson Boulevard, Michael Drive, Carol Court and Judy Court.
Three neighborhood residents said they were opposed to the proposal. Others have expressed their disapproval.
City Manager Keith Baker said they are not trying to pit neighborhoods against each other.
Mayor Tom Kramer felt the N.I.A. would have limited the city’s access to funding.
Other Council members said they have heard negative comments about the idea.
An Neighborhood Improvement Authority can be used by communities in order to assist with economic development and redevelopment in targeted residential neighborhoods. People who live in the district would not see their taxes go up.
