UNION CITY – (WTVB) – Union City village officials are telling residents that sales people going door to door asking to talk about gas utilities are not Michigan Gas Utilities employees and are not affiliated with Michigan Gas.
They say these are third party sellers that would like to sell you their natural gas and switch to their company. That gas is still delivered by Michigan Gas and you will still pay delivery charges by Michigan Gas as well as the third party carrier. They often do not portray the additional cost and claim they can sell at a cheaper cost.
Very often the combined charges are more than what you are currently paying.
Village officials point out Michigan Gas does not go door to door soliciting to see your bill or discuss your gas prices. They are a public utility and are regulated as such.
Door to door sales people are required to obtain a permit to solicit in Union City.
It is recommended that residents do not provide gas bills to random door to door sales people and that residents should call Michigan Gas directly with questions.
You should also do some research if you are seeking a third party gas provider.
If you have a sales person who is refusing to leave your property or engaging in deceptive sale practices, call Union City Police at 741-9191.
Contact the village office at 741-8591 during business hours with any questions where a Police Officer is not needed.
