COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors approved a Fiber to the Premise project Thursday, which will be the second phase of an upgrade to the utility’s fiber backbone that was installed in 1997.
The next phase will involve residential customers after the initial phase took care of customers in commercial and industry.
CBPU Director Jeff Budd said last March when the board approved a proposal from Aspen Wireless to provide design services that the systems built on 1990’s technology has performed well, but they now require significant upgrades in order to remain secure and reliable.
Budd said during a joint meeting with the City Council in November 2019 that the installation work for residents would take two years to finish and estimated the project will cost over $4 million.
More information is expected to be released by the CBPU in the near future.
