COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The weather has been rather tranquil for several weeks, but that is changing this weekend.
The National Weather Service has placed Branch, Hillsdale, St. Joseph and Steuben Counties under a Winter Weather Advisory from 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening until 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. A Flood Watch remains in effect for those counties until Saturday evening.
Rain is expected to change to freezing rain and then to snow on Saturday night with a period of sleet possible. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch.
Travel could become very difficult with snow and ice covered roads Saturday night. Scattered power outages are possible with gusty winds and ice accumulations.
Forecasters are still predicting a total rainfall amount of three to five inches by Sunday morning. Rain throughout Saturday maybe accompanied by thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect for Calhoun, Kalamazoo, Jackson and Van Buren Counties from 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon until 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. Heavy mixed precipitation is expected with total snow accumulations of up to three inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to three tenths of an inch.
Winds are expected to gust up to 35 miles an hour.
