COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Request for Qualifications from developers for the former Taylor’s Stationer’s Building is ready to be sent out after a draft was reviewed Wednesday by the Coldwater Downtown Development Authority Board.
The board approved a sales agreement in November to purchase the building for $107,500 in order to become its local agent.
Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden said the R.F.Q. will be asking developers who are interested and to prove they have the experience and vision to prove they can finish this project.
Board Chair Brad Rockey and Branch County Economic Growth Alliance Director Lisa Miller agreed the R.F.Q. timeline should be open ended.
Consultant Tim Hart said they have had some people go through the building which he calls massive. The building used to be a hotel but Hart said there would be a lot of construction if someone decides to put in apartments on the second floor.
At this point, the future use of the building remains up in the air.
The building has been empty since Taylor’s Stationers closed in 2016 when owners Howard and Lola Taylor retired after being in business for 44 years.
