LANSING, MI (WTVB) – A Branch County pork producer is now the chairman of one of the top farm policy committees in the state of Michigan.
Brian Pridgeon of Montgomery this week was elected Chair of the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development. He had previously served as Vice Chair.
Pridgeon is the owner of Pridgeon Farms, a seventh-generation hog farm that markets 70,000 animals annually. He is the secretary of the Michigan Pork Producers board of directors and the young farmer chair and executive committee member of Branch County Farm Bureau.
The Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development has the responsibility to recommend, and in some cases determine, policy on food, agricultural, and rural development issues.
The commission is a bipartisan body of five citizens appointed by the Governor. Pridgeon’s term on the commission expires December 31, 2020.
