LANSING, MI. – (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater will get some help from the State of Michigan to fix and improve Sauk River Drive.
Sauk River Drive is included in a series of Michigan Department of Transportation grants that were announced on Thursday by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
The Transportation Economic Development Fund grant for work on Sauk River Drive totals $375,000.
Sauk River Drive has provided a number of teeth rattling rides in recent years. A MDOT news release stated Sauk River Drive is an important east-west all-season route serving numerous commercial and industrial businesses but the high volume of commercial traffic has contributed to the deterioration of the road and the pavement is nearing the end of its operational life.
Plans call for Sauk River Drive to be resurfaced from South Michigan Avenue to South Willowbrook Road. The city will also widen the road and put in a dedicated center turn lane in hopes of improving safety.
The total cost of construction is over $495,000. The City of Coldwater share of funds will come to over $120,000.
