COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council gave the Coldwater High School Interact Club permission on Monday night to proceed with their mural project and to have it painted on the building at 73 West Chicago as long as the city owned the building.
It was stated in the motion that the mural could be removed if the city loses control of the building.
Mayor Tom Kramer told members of the Interact Club that while they support their project, this puts the city in a dilemma as they are trying to attract a business to that location. He said the Council’s action on Monday would allow the Club to look for possible alternative locations.
A sketch submitted by 2018 Coldwater High School graduate Abby Licht was selected for the mural project.
Licht’s design features the Waterworks Park bridge, the Cardinal, the Branch District Library, Tibbits Opera House, the Passenger House train station, the eagle in front of the Henry L. Brown Municipal building, the Courthouse clock tower, the Branch County Fair, and the downtown Coldwater Farmer’s Market.
The Interact club voted for their favorite mural from among three finalists.
Funds have been raised but more money is needed. The project is expected to cost between $8,000 and $10,000.
