FABIUS TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A woman and one of her four children were found dead following an overnight fire southwest of Three Rivers in St. Joseph County.
Michigan State Police are investigating the residential fire at 12859 Harder Road in Fabius Township which broke out at around midnight.
Troopers say the living room and garage were fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.
They were told by firefighters that three children were able to escape through a window to safety.
Unfortunately, due to the location of the fire in the residence, responding police and fire personnel were unable to enter the residence to search for the mother and a fourth child.
Once the fire had been put out, both were found dead inside the residence.
The fatal victims have been identified as 38-year-old Michelle Diana Bixler and 16-year-old Cheyenne Ruth Bixler, both of Three Rivers.
The three surviving children were taken to Three Rivers Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
Fire departments from Three Rivers and the Fabius Township responded along with Constantine Police.
