George Calvin Pope, 93, of Coldwater, passed away January
28, 2020 at the Laurels of Coldwater.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00
AM on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Church of Christ at Bronson, MI with
Minister Mike Roberts officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date.
He was born September 9, 1926 to William F. and Mary E.
(Strickland) Pope in Xenia, OH. He married Virginia M. Welch on December 22,
1963 and she survives.
From 1944 to 1946 George had proudly served his country
in the United States Army. Following his service, he had received his diploma
and was employed at the Albion Foundry, Fisher Body in Flint, and Shaw Shoe
until 1965.
George had also worked in construction, building residential homes
but had ultimately retired as a real estate broker after many years.
He was a devout member of the Church of
Christ at Bronson. He enjoyed woodworking; especially building furniture for
the church and his home, and fishing.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by his
children, Frances (Don) High of Kalamazoo; Calvin (Dorothy) Pope of Coldwater;
six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one
son, Dean Pope, and three brothers.
Memorials may be directed to the Church of Christ at
Bronson.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Dutcher Funeral
Home in Coldwater.
