BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – A dispute between the City of Battle Creek and the city’s Historic District Commission over the tower section of the Binder Building will be decided by the Michigan State Historic Preservation Review Board May 29, 2020.
The city claims in a news release that the tower section is a public hazard but it’s location in the historic district is delaying further action.
Several floors inside of the tower collapsed last September. It’s demolition can not take place without the H.D.C. approving it.
The H.D.C. denied the city’s request for demolition during a meeting on January 13th as some members did not beleive the conditions to proceed with demolition were met.
