COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Community Schools Superintendent Terry Whelan yesterday got her first inside look at the second story of the still under construction new Lakeland Elementary school.
The building for fourth and fifth grade students is still scheduled to open in December 2020 after groundbreaking for the project on Western Avenue took place in April 2019. The project is also reportedly still on budget.
Whelan was given a tour of the new school by Ethan Elzinga, the project superintendent for the elementary which is being built by the Grand Rapids construction firm of Owen Ames Kimball. Also checking out the project with Whelan was her six year old grandson Bryson Ferry, a kindergarten student at Max Larsen Elementary who will be a fourth grader at Lakeland in the 2024-25 school year.
The new school building will replace the original Lakeland Elementary and was made possible by the approval of a millage and bonding issue in November 2017 by Coldwater school district voters.
