COLDWATER, MI. – (WTVB) – Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker says in his report for Monday’s City Council meeting that condemned homes at 55 East Park Avenue and 35 Lucky Drive as well as the commercial building at 26 South Monroe Street have been or are scheduled to be demolished.
Baker says the vacant home at 106 North Hanchett Street is scheduled to have an asbestos survey with abatement and demolition to occur later this Spring.
He adds each structure was evaluated for asbestos and abated accordingly.
Once the weather permits this spring, the sites will be final graded, seeded and restored. Parrish Excavating is the local contractor who completed the work.
The planned demolition of the nearly 115-year-old vacant building owned by the City at 26 South Monroe Street happened last Monday.
The city plans to create a walkway between the Tibbits Plaza and South Monroe Street in order to facilitate pedestrian traffic flow through the downtown and to alleviate some parking concerns.
Additional plans that may be developed include public restrooms, bicycle parking, or low-impact stormwater management. The building had long been altered and little historic detailing remained, according to city officials.
