COLDWATER, MI. – (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved the purchase of a trailer for this year’s tire recycling program with the Southwest Michigan Solid Waste Consortium.
The County is only buying one trailer because according to County Administrator Bud Norman, the state grant this year would only cover up to $2,000.
If a second trailer is not full, the state would only pay $2 for each tire and the county would have to pay for the additional costs.
Commissioners felt it was best just to buy one trailer for this year and see what happens.
The event, which has been held during August in the past, is being made possible by a Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Scrap Tire Grant.
It’s been only open to Branch County residents.
