COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Bud Norman told the Board of Commissioners during their work session Thursday that the goal is to have the design of the new Branch County Jail done by the end of the month.
He pointed out the decision to move the new jail to the south and to the east will result in significant cost savings since fewer pilings to support the foundation will be used.
Norman said the change in the jail location has brought the project within budget.
Once the design is done, Norman said bidding will then take place followed by bonding for the project which he said was still on track for March.
Once the bonding is done, then construction on the jail can begin with hopes Mother Nature will co-operate and provide Branch County with a dry spring.
A former presentation will be made to Commissioners by architects, engineers and contractors April 2.
