BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The City of Battle Creek canceled the system-wide boil water advisory Thursday morning and says water from the city system is safe to drink and cook with again.
The advisory was issued Tuesday night after a 16-inch water main broke and leaked near the intersection of McCamly Street and Dickman Road which caused a short-term drop in water pressure and water service for a part of the system.
City crews isolated the area and redirected water from the damage which brought the pressure back up.
The advisory was issued a precautionary measure as low water pressure could allow contamination to enter the water system. The cancellation means that no bacteria was present in the water system and customers can use tap water again immediately.
But they were told to be alert for the possibility of discolored water, caused by sediments in the system that may have been stirred up during the low-pressure situation. It was expected the system to settle within a few days.
