COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners decided Thursday during their work session to bring forward a Fiber Optic Project proposal to next week’s regular meeting.
Commissioners are scheduled on Tuesday to commit $28,000 so that a feasibility study can be conducted by Aspen Wireless into a possible county rural fiber optic internet system.
Branch County Administrator Bud Norman said they want to extend the connection and internet availability throughout the county.
County IT Director Matt Fosdick said the study will give them a framework for what they are looking at.
This is being done after the USDA got nearly $600 million from Congress nearly two years ago to expand broadband in rural areas through grants and loans.
A report for the Commissioners is scheduled to be finished by the end of May.
