Under a seeding format which is being used for the first time by the MHSAA, the top two seeds are in opposite brackets which guarantees they won’t face each other until the district finals. A random draw is held for the teams not seeded first or second.
The top two seeds are determined by a computer formula called the Michigan Power Rankings which is just like the RPI rankings used in college basketball.
