COLDWATER, MI. – (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater’s Downtown Development Authority has released a “Request for Qualifications” as they are seeking developers who want to renovate the former Taylors Stationers building at 60 West Chicago Street.
The three-story building was bought by the D.D.A. in late 2019 in hopes of encouraging downtown development.
The building has been empty since the spring of 2016 when Taylor’s Stationers owners Howard and Lola Taylor retired.
It was stated in a news release issued by the City of Coldwater on Monday that in exchange for redeveloping the building, the D.D.A. has lined up several incentives including a tax abatement plan and rebates for façade improvements.
They will also assist with the application for any state or federal grants offered to downtown development projects.
What’s known as a RFQ allows potential developers to submit proof of their qualifications and intentions.
Included in the RFQ are a list of preferred development features and an explanation of the incentives.
Some of the preferred features include mixed use development and ground floor space for retail.
