COLDWATER, MI. – (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a resolution Monday night that will allow a Council member to be part of a council meeting even when they are on military duty.
Council member Emily Rissman anticipates being called for military training in June.
City Attorney Megan Angel said the Open Meetings Act was amended in 2018 to require the establishment of specific procedures to accommodate the absence of any public body member due to military duty.
She said the change in the law was specific to only those with military duty obligations.
A quorum still has to be present in order for a City Council member serving in the military to fully participate in any meeting, workshop, and/or work session by remote hook up.
