Patricia “Pat” Kay Philson, 69, of Sherwood Township, passed away at home Sunday, March 1, 2020 following a lengthy illness.
A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City with Pastor Chuck Swartout officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4-8:00 PM on Thursday, March 5, 2020, also at Lighthouse in Union City.
Pat was born on November 30, 1950 in South Bend, IN to John and Margaret (Regan) Otter. She graduated from Athens High School in 1968 and attended Wright Beauty Academy in Battle Creek. She worked as a hairstylist for several years at The Village Boutique and then at Cheryl Johnson’s shop, both in Union City.
On March 25, 1973, Pat married Steve Philson at the United Methodist Church in Union City. The couple resided briefly in Burlington, then lived in Burr Oak for a dozen years before putting down permanent roots in Sherwood Township in 1988. Pat gave up salon work when her children arrived, but was later employed for 19 years at the membership desk at Sam’s Club in Battle Creek.
Those closest to Pat knew her as a highly independent person who was very giving and an incredible caregiver. She would do anything for you. Visiting her kids and seeing them doing well and being successful gave her great satisfaction.
For herself, Pat enjoyed the simple pleasures of thrift store shopping, taking in dinner and a movie with her husband and doting on her small dogs. Family and friends meant everything to her.
Left to cherish Pat’s memory are her husband of 46 years, Steve; her children, Steven Philson II of Marshall and Suzanne (Josh) Masek of Landar, WY; a granddaughter, Ally Kay Philson of Marshall; and her siblings, Debbie (Lyle) Davis of Colorado Springs, CO, Carol Brock of Shaumburg, IL Connie (Jack) Smith of Indianapolis, IN and Cathy (Robert) Magnus of La Porte, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter-in-law, Sandra Philson.
Memorial donations are suggested to the family.
