LANSING, MI. – (WTVB) – More room will be needed on the Bronson High School Gymnasium wall for another state championship picture.
The Bronson Girls Bowling Team captured a second straight M.H.S.A.A. Division Four championship on Friday as they defeated Kent City in the finals 1,095 to 974 at Royal Scot Lanes in Lansing.
The Vikings were third in the qualifying block as the top eight teams move into the head to head match play format which determines the state title.
The third seeded Vikings defeated sixth seeded Bad Axe in the quarterfinals 1,003 to 965 before knocking off second seeded East Jackson in the semi finals 1,117 to 945.
In the finals against Kent City, Bronson built a 60 pin lead after the Baker games and then used a 61 pin edge in the regular game to claim the state championship trophy. Dakota Smith led the Vikings in the regular game with a 184 followed by Aubrey Weinberg with a 176, Harlee Davis with a 157, Idalia Hernandez rolled a 151 and Hilary Davis had a 124.
After winning a regional championship last week, the Quincy girls finished first in the qualifying block but lost in the quarterfinals to Kent City 1,071 to 1,036. Kent City was down by 17 pins after the Baker games but used a 769-717 edge in the regular game to pull out the match.
The Bronson boys finished ninth in the qualifying block and were 19 pins behind Ithaca for the last spot in match play.
