LANSING, MI. – (WTVB) – For the second straight year, Bronson’s Dakota Smith made the M.H.S.A.A. Girls Bowling Division Four championship match but she was edged for the state title on Saturday at Royal Scot Lanes in Lansing by Kassidy Alexander of Hanover-Horton 371-364.
Alexander got two clutch strikes in the 10th frame of the second game to pull out the seven pin victory.
After qualifying 12th, Smith defeated Savannah Donnersbach, of Jackson Lumen Christian 402-342, Amaya Guzman of Ravenna 379-338 and Kylie Junak of Ishpeming Westwood 373-316.
Aubrey Weinberg of Bronson qualified seventh. She won her first round match over Claire Burton of Harbor Beach 319-303 but lost in the quarterfinals to Andrea Bickel of Oscoda 371-363.
Quincy’s Torrance Swift was 18th during the qualifying and missed the last spot for match play by 17 pins.
In the boys individual state finals, Bronson’s Bryan Foote was the 16th seed after the morning qualification but he stunned top seed Austin Farah of Genesee 388-384 in the opening round of match play.
Foote then defeated Deven Warner of Homer 381-365 in the quarterfinals before losing to Ethan Androl of Unionville-Sebewaing in the semifinals 479-398. Warner eliminated Bronson’s Nick Cranson 430-359 in the opening round of match play after Cranson qualified eighth.
Brody Glei was the top finisher for Quincy during the qualifications as he was 26th.
