BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Brandon Downs scored a career-high 27 points and three other Coldwater players finished in double figures Monday night in the Cardinals 84-61 victory over Kalamazoo Loy Norrix at the MHSAA Division One District basketball tournament hosted by Lakeview High School.
The Cardinals never trailed as they recorded their highest point total of the season. They led 18-14 after the first quarter and 32-21 at the half.
After Loy Norrix trimmed the lead to eight points, the Cardinals went on a big run and built the lead to 27 points at one time. A 28-15 third quarter extended the Coldwater lead to 60-36 and the only question at that point was what the final score was going to be.
Spencer Rodesiler had 15 points, eight assists and three steals while Ethan Crabtree had 14 points, Dylan Targgart had 11 points and nine rebounds and Austin Santure had nine points and 11 rebounds.
The Cardinals will face the host Lakeview Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night in the district semifinals.
In the second game at Lakeview Monday night, Gull Lake eliminated Battle Creek Central 56-49. The Blue Devils will face Sturgis in the first semifinal Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
In the Division Three Districts at Quincy, the Union City Chargers were eliminated by Centreville 53-31. The Bulldogs will face Bronson is the first semifinal Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. followed by the host Quincy Orioles against White Pigeon.
