BRANCH COUNTY, MI. – (WTVB) – Branch County residents who voted in the Democratic Primary on Tuesday picked former Vice President Joe Biden over Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders by a nearly two to one margin.
Biden easily carried Branch County as he beat Sanders 1,706 to 981.
With 88 percent of the Democratic Primary votes reported from around the state, Biden had nearly 53 percent of the vote while Sanders had 36.5 percent. Sanders won the Democratic Presidential Primary over Hillary Clinton in 2016.
With his Michigan victory, Biden picks up 71 convention delegates while Sanders got 51
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump had 2,897 votes in Branch County in the Republican Primary and even though he only faced token opposition, Trump had over 637,000 Republican votes statewide or 94 percent of the GOP ballots cast.
A handfull of Branch County voters were asked to decide school questions on the ballot.
Butler Township residents who are in the Litchfield Community School District voted on a sinking fund millage proposal which passed 299-206 when the votes from Branch and Hillsdale Counties were combined.
Hillsdale County Intermediate School District voters in Algansee, Butler and California Townships cast ballots on a 20 year millage proposal which was passed district wide 3,793 to 2,796.
Sherwood and Matteson Township voters in the Glen Oaks Community College District voted on an additional millage request for five years in order to fund campus improvements but it was defeated 5,190-4,354.
Nearly 9.5 percent of registered voters in Branch County voted in each of the Presidential Primaries and there was about a 30 percent turnout around Michigan.
