COLDWATER, MI. – (WTVB) – There was no hiding Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency Health Officer Rebecca Burns frustration during Thursday’s Board of Health meeting as she blasted people who were not taking Governor Whitmer’s three week “Stay Home Stay Safe” Executive Order seriously.
With no vaccination available and the state scrambling to get medicial supplies into the hands of the right people, the executive order is in effect from midnight this past Monday until April 13th as a way to keep people away from each other and slow the spread of COVID-19.
Burns told the board as her staff was heading home on Wednesday, they saw several families playing softball and kids huddled together while playing basketball.
She said people can go out and get groceries and do what they need to do but they don’t need to take everybody in their family with them. Burns said, “we need to get smarter about how we interact during this time of crisis”.
As of Thursday afternoon, the C.H.A. says of the people they know that have been tested, there have been five positive COVID-19 results in Hillsdale County out of 39 cases with results from 20 cases still pending.
Two positive cases have been reported at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater.
There have been 15 Branch County tests conducted with results on six cases pending.
St. Joseph County has had 38 tests conducted with no positive results yet but results are pending on 10 cases.
The Calhoun County Health Department said on its web site Thursday afternoon that there have been eight positive cases in their county out of 104 tests. So far, 42 tests have been negative with 54 tests still pending.
